I attended this month for the sixth year at the kind invitation of Triratna, formerly known as the FWBO – Friends of the Western Buddhist Order – in its past life, the annual Buddhafield Festival, held near Taunton,  80 minutes up the railway line from Totnes in south Devon, England. Around 2500 adults and children attend the festival. (more…)

My arrival in India got off to a slow start at New Delhi railway station on January 22, 2010. The Rajdhani Express from New Delhi to Gaya took 30 hours instead of 12 hours. I spent the night on the platform with my shawl as a mattress , a sleeping bag as a duvet and the edge of my small backpack (with laptop etc) as a pillow. (more…)

For 23 years Rom Houben, 46, was ­imprisoned in his own body. He saw his doctors and nurses as they visited him during their daily rounds; he listened to the conversations of his carers; he heard his mother deliver the news to him that his father had died.
