I too have been musing on this and have arrived at the following. As the baby boom generation is now over 40 their children have grown up and have left home couples are faced with a dysfunctional intimacy their choice is to either accept a period of loss and shallow breathing within their relationship or a quantum leap into remaining present with the habits that have built up during their family years disarming those and our new facination will be what I call quatum intimacy; finding new ways to achieve deep intimacy in long term relationships that are not built on eroticism power or money. This new interest goes hand in hand with cultural spirituality too. How do we achieve status within society without youthful looks and without massing power and money. The secret seems to disarm those old paradims and witness the shadow without judgement and therefore get to see where the door is into a deeper spiritual intimacy.

Greed and desire corrupt the soul
and will never bring happiness.
Freeing mankind from mindless consumerism is a function of the Dharma.
